Carlos Alvarez Owns Shops... Carlos Alvarez came to Texas from Quito, Ecuador in South America when in his early 20's and knew very little English. He worked at various transmission shops and gradually learned English by listening to the radio. Carlos attended The University of Texas in Austin where he earned his certification. After learning all he could from others, he opened his own business in 1960 and slowly made enough money to bring his parents and siblings to Texas. He became active in the Ecuadorian community of Houston, and he and his family members became proud legal U. S. citizens.
Carlos oversees all of the repairs done by his employees, who are also certified mechanics. They have been with him for several decades. Carlos believes in treating his customers fairly and does his best to live up to his motto, “The Customer Is Always King.” A large African lion is the symbol he uses to reinforce this philosophy. Many of his customers have been with him from the beginning and second generations of customers also use his services. Carlos is an avid tennis player and exercise enthusiast and participates in the Westside Tennis Club activities. Carlos is not above doing any task to make his business locations attractive, including picking up trash, sweeping the floors, or cleaning the restroom facilities. He believes in hard work and treats both employees and customers with respect, decency, and honesty. He stays up to date on the latest models of cars and trucks, both foreign and domestic.
